CSI fOCUS PARAVALVAR LEAKS

DEVELOPED BY: Iqbal Malik, Martin Bergmann, Burkhard Mackensen

The paravalvar leak focus workshop is part of CSI Frankfurt 2024, the leading conference on catheter interventions in congenital, structural and valvar heart disease and heart failure.

Paravalvar leak occurs after both surgical and transcatheter valve replacement/implantation. It affects all valves and can lead to haemolysis, heart failure and may increase the risk of endocarditis. Understanding the role of multimodality imaging in defining the complex anatomy, position and size of the defect is an essential part of procedural success. Recently, dedicated devices had been developed and approved.

The first session tackles practical and safe pre-procedural patient selection. The role of imaging is discussed - TTE TOE, ICE, CT- and what counts as success. To summarize, we dive deep into WHY do it. The second session looks at the tools needed to do a procedure - be it aortic or mitral. Overall, we look at HOW to do it successfully. Finally, we present a session of more challenging cases and complications - the Advanced Expert session which will be useful to explore possible complications and closure of unusual paravalvar leaks with tips and tricks from experienced operators. Interspersed with lectures from leading experts and valuable debates, there will also be live and recorded cases with plenty of time for interaction and discussion.
