CSI FOCUS VSD CLOSURE

DEVELOPED BY: Tin Do Nguyen, Nageswara Rao Koneti, Alain Fraisse

The VSD focus workshop is part of CSI Frankfurt 2024, the leading conference on catheter interventions in congenital, structural and valvar heart disease and heart failure, which will take place June 19 - 22, 2024 in Frankfurt, Germany.

More than 35 years after transcatheter closure of ventricular septal defects has been pioneered, we are still looking for the indications and limits of this technique. Because of the variable shape and size of the defects, the proximity of some crucial surrounding structures like the aortic valve or the conduction tissue, and the complexity of the technique, VSD closure remains one of the most difficult interventions. This year, a large part of the CSI meeting is dedicated to this challenging procedure. One session will address the current scope and limits for perimenbranous VSDs closure. From a historical perspective we’ll discuss which devices are available, how small or how large are the defects suitable for transcatheter closure, and how can we better anticipate pre- and post procedural complications, especially regarding the conduction tissue. Another session will focus on the different techniques to optimally perform this challenging procedure. Finally, the last session will address the follow up and the management of late complications. We will bring for this topic the most experienced operators and their teams, debates, presentation of innovative techniques and devices, and some live cases as well. Your participation to this session will be, as always, the key for its success.
