FOCUS WORKSHOP:

PFO

This two-day workshop will take place on the third and fourth day of CSI Frankfurt, the leading congress on catheter interventions in congenital, structural and valvar heart disease. At CSI Focus PFO you will learn all you need to know about PFO closure. The program will cover morphology and imaging of the PFO,  an update on trial data and guidelines, indications for PFO closure, step-by-step procedural guidance, case-based learning, and complication management. We will also take a close look at the design and specific technical advantages and limitations of selected PFO closure devices.

Key Details:

  • Date: Friday, September 18 - Saturday, September 19, 2020
  • Location: Congress Center Messe Frankfurt
  • For participants of all levels
  • Early bird registration discount is available until March 6, 2020: Register now

SESSION 1: MORPHOLOGY AND IMAGING

 Live case transmissions

The anatomy of the PFO

How common is a PFO really?

Anatomical risk factors for stroke: Eustachian valve, floppy septum, size, aneurysm without PFO

Why and how to do transcranial doppler (TCD)

How to evaluate the PFO using TEE – case based

ICE to guide PFO closure

Angiography and balloon interrogation to guide PFO closure

TEE after PFO closure

This is what you should look for

Interesting! But that does not justify routine FU TEE

Is there still a need for a “long tunnel” device?

Do larger devices have more residual shunt and why?

Discussion

SESSION 2: UPDATE ON TRIAL DATA AND GUIDELINES

 Live case transmissions

Pivotal trials and meta-analyses unequivocally support PFO closure

Brexit from PFO closure

How to deal with subgroups – different results in different trials

What is in the guidelines around the globe?

Discussion

SESSION 3: INDICATION FOR PFO CLOSURE

 Live case transmissions

There are many good reasons to close a PFO beyond stroke

PFO closure real number vs burden of disease

Atrial fibrillation and PFO

Case presentation: a young patient with paroxysmal AF and PFO

Discussion

SESSION 4: HOW TO CLOSE PFOS - CASE BASED LEARNING

 Live case transmissions

A patient with a PFO

  • and a septum aneurysm

  • and additional fenestrations

  • and a very thick septum secundum

  • with very small diameter

  • with very large diameter

Discussion

SESSION 5: DESIGN AND SPECIFIC TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES  AND LIMITATIONS OF SELECTED PFO CLOSURE DEVICES

 Live case transmissions

Device presentations

  • Amplatzer

  • Occlutech

  • Gore

  • Hyperion

  • Lifetech

  • UltraSept

  • PFM

  • HeartStich

  • CARAG

  • Hollistick

  • Chinese lantern

  • Eric Zi’s device

Does it matter what device you choose? – technical success, closure rate, AF, ...

Discussion

Device parade hands-on

SESSION 6: HOW TO MANAGE COMPLICATIONS

 Live case transmissions

My most memorable complication of PFO closure
Case 1
Case 2
Case 3
Case 4
